Apostle Paul to the Elders:  Acts 20: 30-32

“The time will come when some men from your own group will tell lies to lead the believers away after them. Watch, then, and remember that with many tears, day and night, I taught every one of you for three years.

And now I commend you to the care of God and to the message of his grace, which is able to build you up and give you the blessings God has for all his people.”(Acts 20: 30-32)

WE CAN CURB LYING

The shortest form of definition of the word ‘lying’ for a liar, is that it is a conman’s tool; we can draw extension and flow from here. The tool is also generational and took the first stand at the garden of Eden.

The first thing man sought to achieve after creation was wisdom through disobedience harnessed by the devil’s lies; the argument of Adam implicating Eve was noted but God held Adam specially accountable as the chief culprit. Their eyes were opened to the realities of rebellion and the implication was a devastating loss of God’s presence and likeness, resulting in the buy in irreversible death that is the wage of sin. This is the account of the original sin. Our Lord Jesus Christ came and died as a ransom for that sin. His teachings and guides to his disciples and followers that include us are living words of protection against further condemnation.

Again lying continues to exist till this day. There is an element of lie in every sin, this we must know. The combination of perfect-hold and the energy surge that lying brings into human imaginations propels one to act without reasoning. Where  it serves as the practical domain, lying breeds muddy passions that block vents of common sense and the discerning torch of truth. The danger comes when it migrates to a dangerous feel, leading to mortal sin, and attracting eternal condemnation.

The people in Apostle Paul’s admonition are not different from those of today, humanity, after all, is infectious.

To confront lying we must come with equity and table our qualifications with uncommon dedication as children of God.

We can curb lies and we can curb lying. When we are entreated with lies, remember that God hates liars (Proverb 12:22) and ponder on the consequences; put the turf and the strength that lie beneath conscience on notice. It will summon courage to support your fight against lying. Lying can be curbed by avoiding to justify dishonesty, it can be curbed by strengthening integrity and building strength in sincerity, it can be curbed by praying and practical devotion to God. Lying can be curbed by considering that the consequences of lies could run to the lines of one’s generations. When we get to this point  the grace of God will take over and guide us to God’s blessings. May God’s favour continue to be with us. Remain blessed.
