IMO STATE MINISTRY OF POWER AND RURAL ELECTRIFICATION STRATEGIZES TO EMBARK ON POWER AUDIT OF THE STATE
The Ministry of Power and Rural Electrification of Imo State is strategizing to embark on power audit of the state with a view to collating, analyzing and streamlining power and energy needs that are necessary for the overhaul of electric power architecture in Imo State. This is coming as part of the development standpoint rolled into the shared prosperity mantra of reconstruction, rehabilitation and recovery that is driving the administration of the Governor of the state, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma.
In a strategic meeting with the heads of departments in the ministry and the Special Advisers to the Governor, whose responsibilities are aligned to the role of the ministry, on Thursday, 10th August, 2023, the Commissioner, Bar Kezie Ogaziechi, drummed on the pertinent consideration and the need for steadfast delivery of this mandate, bearing its wholesome task. He pointed out that power audit harnesses comprehensive assessment of power delivery and planning that target development goals.
Looking at its absolute necessity, power audit is required to gain entrance into energy pool and its demand and availability in pursuit of economic recovery and sustainability. It is also necessary to exercise oversight and decision making by government in fulfilling and providing equitable power supply to all parts of Imo State.
The templates for the power audit of the state will take inputs from the over 700 autonomous communities in the state, plus the municipal towns and the state capital. This will involve inspection and assessment of power units and the existing installations and provisions in the different autonomous communities and locations. This walk-through audit will provide the basic guide in summing up energy installed capacities and provide the required guide in building the necessary power capacity that will sustain good investment enabling environment.
Power audit taken from the above perspective will serve as a ventage adventure into enhancement of economic growth in Imo State.
In this first term of the administration of the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, laudable projects that centered on infrastructural buildup, rehabilitation, reconstruction and recovery, including human capacity development gained warmness in the hearts of the people. It is established in this resolve that in the second term of his administration, come November 11, 2023 governorship election, and with the power audit of the state made available, sustained power supply in the state will serve as the beacon of economic drive and growth.
The Commissioner of Power and Rural Electrification of Imo State, Bar Kezie Ogaziechi, has thrown his commitment around the speedy completion of this task, it is hoped that the task will be completed in eight weeks.
