Passage from Today’s Church Readings:
“A teacher of the Law was there who heard the discussion. He saw that Jesus had given the Sadducees a good answer, so he came to him with a question: Which commandment is the most important of all?Jesus replied, The most important one is this: ‘Listen, Israel! The Lord our God is the only Lord. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’
The second most important commandment is this: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ There is no other commandment more important than these two”(Mark 12:28-31)
CHRIST’S PRESENCE IS THE RECREATION OF GOD’S LOVE FOR US
Love of God and love of our neighbour rest on the pinnacle of human existence. The ten commandments are compressed into two with a substituting degree of consent that places man ahead of all creations. When man was created in the image and likeness of God, love was and remains the blending factor in the divine mix.
And when the limiting precept came after the fall of man, God presented another second and final chance in Our Lord Jesus Christ; His presence is the recreation of God’s love for all of us.
Christ insists He has not come to alter the law and teachings of God’s prophets but to bring them into fruition.(Matthew 5: 17). It means love of God and love our neighbour remain irrevocable.
But the increasing surge of hate that permeates the world today has turned existence into dog’s life and has reduced love into heightened inviable conduct. The devil is on prowl and investing resources to keep the world unhappy. But God holds sway with His might, and we need God’s grace for protection.
AND in PRAYING
We need to pray at all times to continue to remain in God’s presence. Prayer invokes love of God and love of our neighbour; and in turn generate purity of heart for “those who are pure in act and in thought, who do not worship idols or make false promises; the LORD will bless them and save them; God will declare them innocent.”(Psalm 24:4-5). May God answer our prayers as we pray.
AND in THANKSGIVING
We thank God for His goodness, and thanksgiving begins with recognition. When we recognize God in His fullness and power, we will know that in His constant love and goodness He remembers us.(Psalm 25:7). We must thank God today and always. Amen.
