Passage from Today’s Church Readings:

“The Pharisee stood apart by himself and prayed, ‘I thank you, God, that I am not greedy, dishonest, or an adulterer, like everybody else. I thank you that I am not like that tax collector over there.  I fast two days a week, and I give you one tenth of all my income.’

But the tax collector stood at a distance and would not even raise his face to heaven, but beat on his breast and said, ‘God, have pity on me, a sinner!’

I tell you, said Jesus, the tax collector, and not the Pharisee, was in the right with God when he went home. For those who make themselves great will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be made great.”(Luke 18: 11-14).

WHAT SERVES GOD RIGHT BEGINS WITH OBEDIENCE

Poor in spirit is incensed conduct that is imbibed through moral discipline and subjugation. Since we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God, a contrite heart is positioned to remind God of our desire to  reach Him and seek for forgiveness. This was the demonstration of the tax collector in the reading here. Human heart is the private accommodation for thoughts and feelings, and only God has independent access to them, from conception to delivery.

The Pharisee represents vain seekers of today, those who think of proprietary class in divine placement and allow arrogance to steer the wheels of conduct.

What God demands is a balance between what serves Him right and our earthly journey; the journey here is for a while,  it’s the preparatory step to the eternal journey that terminates in salvation or damnation. And what serves God right begins with obedience to Him.

AND in PRAYING

We know that every prayer comes with a request, and God knows every intention. The enabling background must be prepared to serve as a launch base, here we pray: “create a pure heart in me, O God, and put a new and loyal spirit in me”(Psalm 51:10). As we draw this to personal touch, may God answer our prayers.

AND in THANKSGIVING

Thanking God is equal to attraction of blessings, the reward exists in life and the accompanying protection. Thanksgiving is also a sacrifice and “my sacrifice is a humble spirit, O God; you will not reject a humble and repentant heart”(Psalm 51:17). May we continue to thank God every day. Amen.
